Poem: Where Have All the Heroes Gone?

O Washington why did you desert your people?

You have left us to die of rich wanton

O heroes gone in the day of US, upon your graves the shadow of the steeple.

Cold lies the shallow grave in which my heroes lie,

Forgotten all as their statues fall, the empty churches weep full.

Through fire and blood you won this land and filled our hearts, but oh traitorous need for villainous liberty!
